Department of Economics

The department of Economics is one of the important departments started in 1984, it caters to the students at different programmes. It includes students from Arts, Commerce as well as self finance programmes such as BMS, BAF, BBI etc. It is largest departments in the college having post graduate programme i.e. Master of Arts in Economics. The department of economics has experienced and qualified faculty members. The department along with its curriculum encourages students to participate in various activities such as essay writing competition, quiz competition, poster making competition, elocution competition and debate competitions. Students are further encouraged to take part in subject related webinars.

History of the Dept

The department of Economics has a long-standing history. It goes back to the day of inception of the college way back in 1983. The department was started with one division each in FYBA and FYBCOM. The first teacher and head of the department was P. Indira, who got superannuated after commendable contributions of 33 long years. Subsequently other faculty members such as Late Danial Albert, Ms. Sujata B. Kulkarni, Mr. Somnath S. Vibhute and Gunwant B. Gadbade joined the department. The department started the specialization at the third year BA level with six papers in Economics in the year 1999. The department has successfully launched the post graduate programme i.e., Master of Arts (MA) in Economics from the academic year 2020-21.

Facilities

The department has a rich collection of books, both the text books and reference books in marathi and english medium in the library. The department has subscribed to standard periodicals such as Economic and Political Weekly (EPW), Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Bulletins, Kurukshetra and Yojana. Various e-resources are available for the students. Students are given the opportunity to enroll for the Swayam courses.
