St. Gonsalo Garcia College's Department of Rural Development offers options ranging from FYBA to doctorate in the arts. The University of Mumbai also has a Ph.D. Center for Rural Development.

History of the department:
The Department of Rural Development was established in 1988, after which the University of Mumbai was recognized for Post-Graduations (M.A) Center in 2006-2007 and in 2021 allotted recognised Ph.D. Study Center. Dr. Arun Mali is working as the head of the department.
