Introduction....
History Department of Arts Faculty is having 162 students for first year BA,119 students for second year BA and 89 students for Third Year for the year of 2020-21. The department is giving scope to History students by formation of History Association every year. Association works actively for the organization of Various activities on the College and international level such as Quiz, Essay, elocution, PPT Competition research paper presentation, exhibition etc. for the development of writing skills, Leadership skill, effective communication and overall development of personality of students. The department taking efforts to provide information by various Resource person about National Heroes, competitive exams, also encourages to join in Indian Army and Local Self Government. The department also motivated students for contesting elections,formation of Association to do welfare work for society and Nation.
For the creation of a Healthy Atmosphere or communal Harmony department Organises program like National Integration, Indian Attire, traditional day, patriotic songs, Human Rights Day and celebrations of memorial Days of National and Social Figures etc. History helps to express thought and ideas by learning about success and Downfall of many Dynasties and Nations. It is one of the dynamic channels for the student’s formation in decision making power and success life of Bright Future.
History of The Department:
History Department of St.Gonsalo Garcia College was introduced by our Former Principal Dr. Father Valinkar, Professor Alexander and Prof. Carmelina Rodriguez in the year 1985. After the retirement of Father another Former Principal and popular Historian Dr.Regin Dsilva shouldered the responsibility of being Principal of College as well as head of department of history Dr. Afegine Tuscano and Dr. Teresa Pereira joined in 1994 onwards. After the retirement of Dr.Regin Sir, Alexander Sir carried away responsibility of Departmental Head up till 2017, after him responsibility followed headship by Dr. Afegin Madam. At present Dr. Teresa has been successfully handing History Department.
During Dr.Fr. Valenkar's regime, he made an example out of history teaching, history is not to be learnt in classroom but in about developing an attitude of preservation of all historical places and monuments of historical importance. Keeping learning in mind history department has been organising historical tour to places like kanheri caves, elephanta caves museums, forts, Mumbai Darshan Vasai Darshan etc. Which are pretaining to the the syllabus every year.
Teachers of History Department was very much helpful to university exam Department, paper settings, assessment, moderation, revaluation, Viilance scode, Board of Study, syllabus preparation etc. Every Teacher of History Department had a friendly approach with students.
The number of activities had with the collaboration of S. N. College, Abhinav College, St. Xavier College, Ruia College, P.N.Shoff College, Vartak College and St. Joseph College, Anna Saheb Vartak College etc.
